San Juan Capistrano, California, USA – Meggitt Sensing Systems, a Meggitt group division, has announced that its crash test sensing technologies have been earmarked to support “next generation” WorldSID 50th percentile crash test dummy (ATD) instrumentation, slated for adoption by many of the world’s largest automotive OEMs and their associated crash test laboratories.
With thousands of successful installations each year, Endevco® piezoresistive accelerometers are regarded as the industry standard for crash test, anthropomorphic test devices (ATDs) and related vehicle legislative and safety testing due to their compact size, high output and relatively low mass, as well as their capability for high-reliability measurement of high shock and vibration inputs, rotational acceleration/deceleration and long duration transient motion. The series further offers seamless compatibility to in-dummy and onboard data acquisition systems, in accordance with SAEJ211, SAE2570 and other recognized global standards. Many models are available for immediate shipment under Meggitt’s Endevco® Guaranteed InStock™ program.
One example of these is the Endevco® model 7268C, a miniature triaxial piezoresistive accelerometer series, designed for the high-reliability measurement of short-duration shock parameters across three axes and in three orthogonal directions, within applications where impact source or direction may be less apparent. Housed within a robust package measuring just 12.7 x 10.7 x 13.7 mm, model 7268C is offered in both a 500 g range version, rugged to 5,000 g shock, with a resonant frequency of 17,000 Hz; and in a 2,000 g range version, rugged to 10,000 g shock and with a 26,000 Hz resonant frequency. Frequency response for both versions is to 1500 Hz on the X&Y axes and 0 to 3000 Hz on the Z-axis. Their combined non-linearity and hysteresis error is less than 1% FSO, making it one of the most accurate crash test transducers on the market. The sensor also incorporates integral mechanical stops for added ruggedness and over-range protection, with two fixed resistors for per axis shunt calibration. Units are supplied with integral cable and customer choice of excitation voltage and cable length. The Endevco® model 7268C is world SID-dummy approved, including Euro SID-1 and Euro SID-2, with specifications that further meet EuroNCAP, SAEJ211 and SAEJ2570 standards. With its broad frequency response, high sensitivity and high output, the series is ideal for vehicle crash testing, crash sled testing, general shock monitoring, or short duration shock testing when used within specified ranges.
All of Meggitt’s Endevco® accelerometers are accompanied by a comprehensive five-year warranty and are available with a full complement of available signal conditioning electronics, cables and accessories.
