I have a 10-32 coaxial cable connector that is damaged and unusable. Is there a connector replacement option?

Answer


Yes, there is a self-repair option to replace most 10-32 coaxial cable connectors as well as other replacement/repair options.

There is a replacement option for most standard 10-32 coaxial male connectors, BNC male connectors and a 4-pin female connector, used to connect to triaxial accelerometers.

Connector types that are replaceable

It is also possible to replace the 7/16-27 UNS-2B, differential female connector that is used on the Endevco cable assembly model 6917B. This cable assembly typically connects to Endevco's accelerometer models 6222S and 6233C. The replacement connector part number is 26574.



Part Number 26574 Connector to cable assembly instructions:

  1. Cut through and remove the outer ETFE Jacket and inner braided shield to expose 1 inch lead length for both wires. Use a razor blade to carefully and completely remove all low-noise treated material covering each wire. Once the low-noise material is removed, wipe each wire clean with a cloth or tissue saturated with alcohol or acetone, which removes remaining low-noise residue. (see TD668A for details on preparing raw cable for pin attachment). Reference Figure 1.

  2. Remove the insulation from each wire to expose ¼ inch of bare wire for each wire. Do not tin the wires, since they are to be crimped!

  3. Slide the connector back shell, metal ring, followed by the ceramic lead separator on the cable in the order shown, and then attach the pins and crimp. The shield is not connected to the connector. See Figure 2.

  4. Attach the contact pin insulator and assemble the main connector body and tighten. Pin A is the white lead and Pin B is the red lead. Assemble the cable clamp on the back shell and tighten to the cable. See Figure 3

    Finished assembly. (The crimping tool and strain relief material is not provided with the 26574 connector assembly). Verify there is high gig Ohms resistance from pin to pin and each pin to the metal connector.
